Product Manager - Equipment and Tools

The Product Manager for Equipment and Tools is responsible for JPW’s equipment and tools portfolio including (Air Tools, Warehouse and Dock, Striking Tools/Hand Tools and Tire Lane Tools). This portfolio will grow to include other Automotive Channel focused product lines while serving all channels. This person will maintain the current portfolio of products (inventory, forecasting, promotions, and obsolesce) as well as identify product needs, develop plans to attack in the marketplace, and execute the product launch. The Product Manager will have a focus on reaching and exceeding sales and profitability targets while proactively managing market situations. The Product Manager will work side by side with the category Project Manager (Engineering), the Marketing Manager, as well as the Sales Directors for the relevant channels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Product Development

  • Leadership role on cross-functional development teams translating end-user, application, and distribution needs and trends to ensure new products exceed users' expectations
  • Develop product road map utilizing voice of customer
  • Conduct market research, as assigned, to identify and track market trends, providing data in a timely manner to support category development.
  • Produce competitive analysis materials for selected products and lines.
  • Analyze costing of products and perform necessary cost-reduction measures to ensure new products meet or exceed margin requirements.

Category Management

  • Responsible to develop and execute strategies for new and existing products. Maintain 3-year product roadmap.
  • Develop marketing and commercialization strategy by product line, including target financial performance objectives and periodically review product offerings and selection to make recommendations for their continuation, expansion, and/or discontinuation.
  • Review/monitor product-pricing, margins, and make recommendations and adjustments accordingly.
  • Review/monitor inventory levels and back order status of items, and make sales forecasts and sales recommendations.
  • Monitor product sales and assess marketing successes and financial performances.
  • Assist in the budgeting process as directed.

Marketing / Sales Support

  • Work with marketing to provide the messaging for catalog, sell sheets and other supporting sales instruments for successful product launches.
  • Provide copy, technical information and support material to Marketing for advertising, packaging, catalogs, and other promotions as required
  • Maintain product and marketing files, which include pricelists, competitive literature, master specification sheets and vendor information.
  • Support the sales effort by completing on-time development of programs, promotions and sales materials.
  • Respond to special quote requests appropriately.
  • Support training and sales programs for reps, dealers, customer service and sales.
  • Visit key dealers and accounts and participate in tradeshow events as appropriate.
  • Prepare and present line reviews and competitive analysis.

Experience, Competencies and Education

  • Must be self-driven with a desire to grow the business and grow professionally.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience as Product Manager in consumer or professional products company.
  • Strongly prefer experience as product manager for air tools. Require experience
  • with air tools, warehouse products, construction products, or industrial products.
  • Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, Word; Experience with SAP helpful
  • Understanding of all aspects of product launches, program development and sales.
  • Be able to work on multiple projects.
  • Proven written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient with Excel, Access, Word; generating reports requisitions, and product research. Experience with SAP helpful.
  • 4-year college degree. MBA Preferred
  • Travel as needed

Physical Demands

  • Continuous bending, walking, lifting; May be required to lift up to 50 pounds
